Renessa Christiane Pihl was born on December 12, 1989 in Westwood, NJ. She is the 3rd child in the family of Keith & Renée Pihl. As a daughter after two boys, she was welcomed so warmly.
She seemed so healthy in the beginning, but after only a few months it became very apparent that something was very wrong in her development. Many trips and visits to doctors only confirmed that very little could be done and so she became our focus of love and dedication. Our friend, Beatriz, said when she was about 4 or 5 months old she was exposed to pesticides which caused blood clots in the main artery going to her brain, blocking the oxygen to her brain and causing brain damage. Of the many scenarios that doctors gave to us, this made the most sense. We were living next to a plant nursery at the time where everybody came to buy pesticides and that particular spring the smell outside of our house was so strong of pesticides, one could hardly breathe. She has developmentally been 4 to 5 months old her whole life. The whole neighborhood in Paramus, NJ, where we lived got involved in trying to help Renessa and different neighbors would come to our house every day to help pattern her muscles to learn how to crawl. It did not work but we received so much love and support from our neighborhood.
As a little girl, she loved to smile, and sometimes she would laugh so genuinely that we couldn’t help but feel joy around her. She taught us beautiful lessons of unconditional love and acceptance. She had beautiful hair, eyes, and a beautiful smile that would melt your heart. She was so happy when people came to see her and she liked to go to the dentist because she was the center of attention there.
She never could talk. read, walk, or do any of the many practical tasks of daily life but she was always so patient and grateful for our time with her. She was the epitome of patience.
When she was 3 years old, we moved to Troy, MI. She went to a special school until we moved to Indiana when she was 13.
At school, she was well-loved by her teachers and was affectionately called Princess P.
On Jan 31, 2009, she received a special Treasure of Heaven Blessing with Abelin Oliver from Hillsboro, MO.
On November 28, 2020 she took her last breath in this physical world and started to untie this tight cocoon where she was imprisoned for so long. With all our love she will be soaring as the most beautiful butterfly to be embraced in God’s realm of love.
Her Seonghwa Ceremony will be held on Friday, December 4 at Haverstock Funeral Home (602 Maple Ave., La Porte, IN 46350).
