Gerald Wayne Olson (Jerry) was born in Omaha Nebraska on November 24, 1962 to Donald Wayne Olson and Ruby Mae Mulanax Olson. Jerry was the eighth of ten children, having one older brother, Kenny, and eight sisters: Donna, Sue, Jean, Marti, Mary, Carol, Paula, and Monica.
When Jerry was four years old, his family moved to the Potawatomi Indian Reservation in northeast Kansas, where several generations of his mother’s family had been born and raised.
The Olson family were dedicated Catholics, attending and observing all services, sacraments, holidays, and traditions. His mother would have it no other way!
While visiting his sister Mary in New York in 1984, Jerry attended a 2-day workshop taught by Rev. Andrew Compton and immediately requested to join the Unification Church. He cherished attending 7-day, 21-day, and 40-day workshops because he loved learning and enhancing his depth of knowledge and understanding.
In 1992 Rev. Moon introduced Jerry to Rossio Medrano, suggesting they’d make a perfect balance for one another as a couple. They happily accepted his advice and joined in the Marriage Blessing of 30,000 Couples which took place in Korea that year.
Jerry was a truly filial son to his parents and loved all his siblings deeply and was deeply loyal and devoted to them. This family love was multiplied 100-fold when he and Rossio began having children.
Andrew, Ericka, and “Little” Jerry enjoyed quality time with their dad. This was his love language to them, along with food, gifts, and deep talks. Jerry asked often how their faith was, and how they were doing spiritually. Each of them was comfortable speaking openly and honestly to him about any internal struggles or questions they might be having. Perhaps his greatest gift to his family was that he made sure they were happy and that they knew that they were loved and valued deeply.
Jerry suffered numerous serious health issues throughout the past several decades but was always determined to hold on for his family. This past July he was diagnosed with cancer and his body was not strong enough to overcome this final physical battle. He passed on to the spiritual world on November 9, 2021 at 1:22 PM.
