Sam Gheberial was born Sabry Nasr Gheberial Hermina on June 12, 1949 in Cairo, Egypt. He was the oldest of six children, four boys, and two girls. After serving his time with the Egyptian Army, Sam traveled to London, England on a student visa in 1976 and earned a degree in electrical engineering. It was in England where he met the Unification Church. His spiritual mother was witnessing from Lancaster Gate in 1979. Her name was Junko Nakajima. As a new member, Sam was mobilized from England to America in 1981. He worked as a security guard for a New York-based Unification Church company and then Sam worked for several years at Sailo in Nyack, NY.

Sam began his studies at the Unification Seminary in 1985, graduating in 1992. During his years at the seminary, he held many jobs to supplement his tuition, from car salesman to restaurant staff. From his time at the seminary, Sam became devoted to President David Sang Chul Kim. “President Kim was the first person to see me as being someone of value,” Sam would sometimes say. He was President Kim’s driver for many years until President Kim’s ascension, driving David Kim around in Sam’s big blue Lincoln Continental. His appreciation for President Kim developed from President Kim being the first person in his life to see his value and believe in his ability. He would say that President Kim was responsible for his spiritual life.

Sam was Blessed in marriage with his spiritual mother, Junko, on August 25, 1992. The Gheberials then moved to Beacon, NY after their Blessing. He and Junko became American citizens in 1995, at which time he legally changed his name to Sam Gheberial. Sam and Junko had one son, Isaac who was born in 1999. Shortly after becoming an American citizen, Sam got his real estate license and remained active in real estate until his death. His passion for electrical engineering never faded. Sam, in addition to his other interests, owned a lively computer repair business. A well-known figure around Beacon, Sam with his wife Junko was the owner of Flowers and Gifts on Main Street for the past 25 years.
