Ursula Moneva Gimay, or better known by her nickname, Nanay Suling, was born in Cabatuan, Iloilo, the Philippines on October 21, 1940. She is the youngest among three children. Ursula’s mother, Rita was a devoted Christian and prayed constantly for her children, of which Ursula felt very blessed by.

After graduating high school, Nanay Suling went to Bacolod to work as a saleswoman. It was there she met the love of her life, her husband Tatay Gustin. Ursula and Agustin had 5 children—3 boys and 2 girls. A dedicated housewife, Nanay Suling is regarded by her children as a loving and devoted mother. She raised her children in an organized and disciplined manner, taught them to be God-loving persons, and prioritized their studies, ensuring they all had a proper education. Nanay Suling expressed pride in the people her children grew up to be.

On August 25, 1995, Ursula and Gustin rededicated their marriage through receiving the Marriage Blessing during the 360,000 Couples Blessing Ceremony.

As a devoted person of faith, Nanay Suling enjoyed reading the Bible, and praying for others, especially for departed loved ones. Nanay Suling was the one you called if you needed someone to lead your Novena prayer. She also enjoyed going on adventures by reading detective stories from the Nancy Drew collection or other fictional stories like the Harry Potter series. Nanay Suling believed that “health is wealth” and enjoyed preparing and eating healthy dishes like “tunuktok na langka” and “laswa”, together with her loved ones.

In September 2010, Nanay Suling came to America to live with her son, Neil, and daughter-in-law, Josephine, and her 5 grandchildren, where she resided until her passing. Nanay Suling is remembered by her grandkids as being humble and sweet. She was always worried about their well-being, and did not hold back on expressing words of love to them, and showing her great affection for them.

Ursula Moneva Gimay passed on February 8, 2021, at 4:41 PM due to Covid-19. She is survived by her five children, Michael, Stephen, Neil, Mylen, and Dyna, as well as, 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
