Itsuko was born on August 10, 1954 in Kagoshima, Japan. She was the oldest of four sisters. Itsuko’s mother passed away from Tuberculosis when she was 10 years old and she took the responsibility of caring for her younger sisters. Throughout their lives, Itsuko’s sisters always loved and appreciated her for the sacrifices she made for them. After high school Itsuko went to nursing school in Kagoshima and graduated four years later. She joined the Unification Church in 1978 and was a dedicated member for the rest of her life. Through the Unification Church she met her husband Rick and they were married in 1982.
In 1988, Rick and Itsuko moved to Seattle and had Joey, Ken and Michele not long after. Together they created a beautiful home full of love and laughter. Rick would always tell Itsuko “the best part of my day is seeing your face.” Itsuko loved being a mother and her life revolved around her children. She supported her children in everything they did. Even with a busy schedule, she always made time to drive her children to soccer practices and never missed a game.
Itsuko always thought of others and gave many gifts. She was a skilled seamstress and was known for making brightly patterned clothes and blankets for newborns. She was an active member in many church organizations, including WFWP, ACLC, High Noon, and enjoyed visiting many different congregations. Itsuko was highly organized and worked as a bookkeeper for the Seattle Church for almost 20 years. Itsuko served as a nanny to the Tameling family for seven years and loved Benton, Cole, and Emi like her own. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and taking walks in Discovery Park. Itsuko was happiest when she was with her family and friends. She will always be remembered for her honest smile and laughter.
