Eiko Hoshino Bihary was born July 28, 1952 in Gunma-Prefecture, Japan. She joined the Unification Movement in 1973 and in the following spring, she came to America to work with the IOWC (International One World Crusade). She served True Parents in several missions, including the Yankee Stadium and Washington Monument campaigns. She was a dedicated pioneer with a strong nature to act. When she got her driver’s license she quickly took responsibility for driving a church Winnebago in Vermont during wintertime!
On Mother’s Day weekend of 1979, all the missionaries gathered in New York and she was matched with Chris Bihary by True Parents and then Blessed in marriage in 1982. She served several years in the New Yorker Hotel helping in the mail room, as a cook, with the staff of the nursery, and during those times, their three children, Yong, Joshua and Yoko were born. In 1992 the family moved to Chris’s hometown of Painesville, Ohio. For the next 12 years, she raised her children often times alone since Chris was frequently doing work in Cuba and Iceland.
From around 2004, they started to do more hometown outreach by hosting a booth each summer at their town fair to introduce True Parents and our movement to their community. They were busy running flower stands in the area on each major holiday and every weekend. Eiko volunteered to speak in schools about Japanese culture on several occasions, always with a heart of serving her community. They Bessed many of their relatives and friends, especially through Chris’ music playing community, his Music Tribe. They even Blessed many hospital nurses during Eiko’s time in the hospital.
Eiko always loved painting. Her busy life didn’t allow much time for it, but after raising her three children, she started to paint again. Even later on, when she needed regular dialysis treatments, she found time and energy to create paintings. She won local awards for her work and her paintings were displayed in various libraries. Her art gave joy to many people. She also loved to knit and was proficient in origami.
She always expressed a beautiful spirit, even through a series of painful and complicated turns in her health situation. During the last nine months of her hospital stay, she could not talk, however she would write notes and share her beautiful smile for everyone who visited her and sometimes she would do funny faces to make us laugh!
She ascended to the Spirit World on Tuesday evening, October 15, 8:40 PM at University Hospitals in Cleveland. She was surrounded by her loving family and close friends. We will always remember her for her wonderful smile, cheerful expressions and a beautiful loving heart.
