Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our dear brother, Steven Vogel, of the Greater Louisville Family Church in Kentucky, ascended to the Spirit World on Saturday, March 4, after battling cancer. Steve met our Unification family in his hometown Louisville and was soon inspired by the Divine Principle. His joyful spirit sustained him through recent health difficulties, and he was a source of joy and hope for those around him. He is survived by his wife Malinda and their son Nicholas.

Let us join together in support of Steve's family during this special and important time, and pray for his victorious transition to a glorious new life in the spiritual world.

Following are a bio by Steve's wife and his Seonghwa information from Pastor Norman Presley.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ki Hoon Kim

My husband Steven Vogel was born in 1952 in Louisville, Kentucky to a family of seven children. They were raised Catholic, but he began searching and researching different religions right after high school. He heard the Divine Principle while still living at home, and quickly decided to move to the Louisville church center. He attended several workshops and was chosen to go to East Garden, where he helped with construction and security. Later on, he became a familiar face as a security guard at the New Yorker Hotel. We received the Marriage Blessing in 1982 and have one son, Nicholas.

Even though he struggled with diabetes for 20 years, and cancer for three, he always continued to witness and bring joy and hope to other patients, doctors, nurses and neighbors, no matter where we lived or how he was feeling.

He ascended to the spirit world on March 4, and the Seonghwa will be held Wednesday, March 8, at 2pm at the Awkard-Lyons Funeral Home in Louisville.

My deepest condolences, Melinda and Nicholas. I knew that he had been ill for a while.
Ah, my heart goes out to you. At least you were allowed to treasure him for almost 35 years.

    Dear Steven,

My ascended brother. By the time I push “send” I think your Seonghwa and Wonjeon ceremony will be over. Perhaps you will be rushing back to True Father’s side for new directions for your new life in heaven. Please be assured that we will keep you, Melinda and Nicholas in our prayers and in our hearts. God speed!

I knew Steve, he was briefly my roommate at the World Mission Center, while we were both on house staff, and again when we were both going to the Blessing at Madison Square Garden in 1982. Steve always had a joyful attitude about life. Steve will be missed, and after reminiscing with John Kayadu about Steve passing away, we both hope True Father gives Steve a new mission in spirit world right away.

As we lived in Kentucky for ten years our family has many, many wonderful memories of Steve and his family. Malinda, you described Steve well as we know him as ever-ready to bring joy and make people laugh. He loved his family deeply and certainly loved and served True Parents with a sincere and joyful heart. We are Blessed to have Steve as our brother. Malinda and Nicholas, you are in our hearts and prayers. Love to you!

This morning I thought about Steve and wished to go to Louisville as I drove across town to work. I have been thinking of him for a couple of weeks and remembering deep conversations we shared over the years. I send love to Malinda and Nick and when I went to O’Reilly’s to get some fuel injector cleaner, I swear Steve’s twin brother/ doppelganger stood in front of me at the register! I thanked God for that. Even thick wire rimmed glasses. I felt like giving the guy a hug.
