Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Our beloved sister, Kerryn Gontijo, of the Worcester Family Church, ascended to the spirit world on the morning of Monday, October 3, after battling with cancer. Kerryn is known for her excellent cooking and her passion for baking. Her great love for God and True Parents showed in her passion for animals and nature, and in her dedication to her family and community.

She is survived by her husband Nelson, children Melissa, Youngshim, Abraham, and Benjamin, her father Graeme, and brother Wayne.

Let us support Kerryn's family during this special and important time, and offer our prayers for her victorious transition to a glorious new life in the spiritual world.

Following is a biography from her family, and Seonghwa information from Pastor Leonita Machado.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ki Hoon Kim
Continental Director

Dr. Michael Balcomb
President

Kerryn Gontijo, 58, and her twin brother, Wayne, were born in Melbourne, Australia to her parents Lorraine and Graeme McClymont. While Kerryn was in her early 20’s, she traveled to America with a one-way ticket and her best friend. Soon after their travels ended, and Kerryn joined the Unification Church in California. She supported the church by fundraising and witnessing in the CARP program for six years. Following that, she provided full time support in the kitchen at camp K, cooking for hundreds every day for about a year. She supported and nurtured around six spiritual children.

In her lifetime she explored and achieved success in the culinary field by receiving a certificate at the Cambridge Culinary Institute, studying French pastry and her associate’s degree in Hotel and Restaurant Management. Her lifelong dream was to eventually open up a bakery. She became a home aid caregiver, which was her primary job for over 13 years.

Her other passions in life were animals and the earth. She bred and raised over ten Cavalier King Charles Spaniels in a span of 15 years. Kerryn would often go on an hour long hike taking two to three dogs at a time. Those closest to her know that she is a very down to earth person. She was resourceful, crafty, adventure-seeking, and a woman that spoke her own mind. She was a spirited rebel and also a woman that challenged the norm. If someone wanted a job to get done, Kerryn was usually nominated.

Kerryn is survived by her husband Nelson and children Melissa, Youngshim, Abraham, and Benjamin, her father Graeme and brother Wayne. She matched Melissa with Heung Jea Joshua Kang and attended their marriage blessing in 2013. She also attended Abraham’s marriage blessing in 2016 to Vicky Thick.

Dear Gontijo family, My wife passed away from the same cancer 3 years ago. This morning I saw her in my dream. She was in the living room hugging our 6 children. As I saw them all in their mother’s embrace I was so amazed how normal she looked. I thought ” Mama is the same as Lazarus in the Bible “. Rest assured your precious Kerryn will do the same for all of you. True Love remains forever. With love, the Reyes family.

Our prayers and best wishes to you Kerryn and family. I have fond memories from the 80’s of witnessing with Kerryn at Market & Powell in S.F., staffing evening programs at Bush St and helping her in the kitchen at Camp K. May heaven’s blessings be with you.
